Overwatch 2 might be the most famous game on the planet we know nothing about - second only to Elden Ring. This is a compilation of the things that we have learned so far.
Overwatch 2 was first shown at BlizzCon in 2019 when the then game director Jeff Caplan revealed that the continuation of the Overwatch story is still in the early stages of development.
One pandemic and two years later, we have some more information about the upcoming game.
Overwatch 2 release date
Overwatch 2, as shown at BlizzConline 2021, is almost a fully-formed game lacking only a bit of polish. However, Activision chief financial officer Dennis Durkin said that their "outlook does not include Diablo 4 or Overwatch 2 launching in 2021."
We're sure that the fans are more than happy to wait if what they get is a truly improved experience and an expansion to the story they know and love, but the recent developments may have pushed Overwatch 2's release date all the way into 2023.
Overwatch 2 skins, emotes and sprays
As far as cosmetics are concerned, the official consensus is that the players who purchase Overwatch 2 will see all their previously earned goodies in the new version of the game. All your accomplishments and loot will also be carried into Overwatch 2.
What's new in Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2 new maps and heroes
Original Overwatch players will be able to take up arms together with Overwatch 2 folks in PvP multiplayer rounds.
Overwatch 2 heroes and maps will also be accessible to the original oddities, and everything could take on a different look.
Overwatch 2 5v5
During a live stream in May, Blizzard revealed that Overwatch 2 would change team sizes down from six to five. It will also change up team composition, which will be limited to one tank, two DPS, and two support. Fewer players on the map will allow the teams to get a better read on the situation during battle.
Tanks in Overwatch 2 will get a lot more aggressive and a bit hybrid-y on the gameplay side. This is to say that Overwatch 2 tanks won't sit behind barriers but take on a more offensive approach.
New maps in Overwatch 2
Get ready to see some more payload, point capture and hybrid maps.
Overwatch 2 will introduce the "tug of war" map: this one will feature a large robot that will move either forwards or backwards, depending on which team is controlling it at the moment. The tug of war maps will also have a bunch of serpentine roads between the teams and victory.
Overwatch 2 new characters
Overwatch 2 will bring new characters to the original game as well. We know that Sojourn will join the current Overwatch roster as soon as the sequel launches.
Echo is, for now, the last hero to be introduced to Overwatch and everyone is operating under the assumption that she's all we'll get until Overwatch 2 sees the light of day.
Will Overwatch 2 be free
Players who have already purchased Overwatch will be able to play multiplayer matches with those who only own Overwatch 2. The multiplayer portion of the game will be free to everyone who currently owns Overwatch.
Overwatch 2 players will have access to the PvE missions - OW2's biggest selling point.
