As you already know, the release of eFootball was a total trainwreck.  So what to do with your time until KONAMI fixes those issues? We are here to show you how you can easily mod the old release for an existing season and much more.

Most people when they hear about modding either visualize some complicating hacking or themselves starring at error messages and blue screens. That might have been the case 10 to 15 years ago but not anymore. It's 2021 and 99% of basic modding is basically point & click, so bear with us while we explain how to make your eFootball experience better.

Basic How-To

The two most popular patches we are going to concentrate on are:

* note that new versions are regularly released so the linked ones might lead to old versions.

Smoke patch installation

First, download the files from provided link, extract them with WinRAR/7zip to your desktop or any location you would like. Note that patch can be split into multiple archives, so wait for all of them to download before extracting. Once you extract the patch, you will have two files: edit00000000 , and  a  .exe file named smokepatch.21.0.0.exe. (or smokepatch.(yourversionnumber).exe)

Open that file as administrator and that will start the installation.

Start the installation as administrator Start the installation as administrator

The only thing you need to do during installation is to set up a location where the original game is located. If you don't know where you installed the game, you can always right-click on the game icon and select Open file location which will take you to the location.

Once the patch has been installed, you need to copy the other file ( edit00000000 ) to the location where the game is saved. In 99% of the cases, that location is in your documents, in folder KONAMI you will have eFootball 2021 (or whatever game edition you are using).

Once you open that, you will find a new folder named as a long number and inside that folder is saved game location. So copy the edit file into the save folder.

Save game location example:  Documents\KONAMI\eFootball PES 2021\76561198863304096\save

Save game location Save game location

And that's it. Smoke patch is installed and ready to play.

Evo-web patch installation

Evo web patch installation is a tad more complicated but in the long run, it offers more flexibility to add more modded content. Patch uses a popular tool called Sider which needs to be installed first. Sider is easy to install and can be installed anywhere. Once you install Sider and have downloaded Evo-web patch, extract it first.

You will find couple of files and folders so let's go over them one by one.

You will find the file the same file edit000000 as in the Smoke patch, and copy it to the same location. (instructions in the paragraph above)

Then inside livecpk folder, you need to copy folder EvoWeb patch to the location where you installed Sider. There youu will also find folder named livecpk and copy the content there:

Copy the EvoWeb patch folder to livecpk inside Sider install location Copy the EvoWeb patch folder to livecpk inside Sider install location

Exit the livecpk folder to get to the root of Sider installation, and there you will find a file named sider.ini. You need to open that file with notepad (open notepad from start and just drag the file inside)  and copy these lines just above existing cpk root line:

  • cpk.root = ".\livecpk\EvoWeb Patch\Boots-Gloves"
  • cpk.root = ".\livecpk\EvoWeb Patch\Database"
  • cpk.root = ".\livecpk\EvoWeb Patch\Faces"
  • cpk.root = ".\livecpk\EvoWeb Patch\Graphics"
  • cpk.root = ".\livecpk\EvoWeb Patch\Kits

Copied lines are highlighted and you can see exactly where they need to be pasted Copied lines are highlighted and you can see exactly where they need to be pasted

And for the basic part of this patch, that is it. However, from now on you need to start the game through Sider and not through normal shortcut. My suggestion is to make a shortcut for sider.exe, rename it to EFootball 2022 and put it anywhere you want. You will not notice the difference (you can even change the icon if you want).

What do these patch bring

If you are an old KONAMI fan, you already know their struggle to keep up with EA in license war. Merseyside red has been with us for so long it has become an actual meme.

These patches will fix entire eFootball database because nobody wants to play with Merseyside blue. Both patches will include correct club and player names with updated transfers from season 2021/2022, correct and updated kits, crests and logos for all clubs. They will also add missing leagues like Bundesliga.

And that is just the basic version of the modding. Stay tuned for the part 2, where we will discuse some advanced modding, where you will be able to add every Premier league stadium to your games, customized scoreboards, faces, balls and much more.
