Ability and weapon scaling can be some of the most important mechanics in Lies of P if you tweak your build to use these powerful bonuses.

Like many other soulsborne titles, Lies of P features a weapon scaling mechanic, that provides bonus damage depending on how many points you invest in certain attributes.

Every hardcore souls player will probably understand what each of the letters represents but for those of you who are diving into this unique genre of games with Lies of P, all those stats are probably confusing.

In this guide, we'll do our best to explain the weapon scaling system in Lies of P so reason below for a full breakdown.

Lies of P Ability Scaling explained

Every hardcore souls like player will probably understand what each of the letters represents but for those of you who are diving into this unique genre of games with Lies of P, all those stats are probably confusing.

The scaling score in Lies of P includes the following letters: A, B, C, D. As you've probably guessed, A is the best scaling score, while D is the worst.

A will give you the highest possible bonus damage, let's say loosely, it gives 100 additional damage, B is 80, C is 60 while D score gives the lowest bonus.

You'll notice in the weapons menu that these letters always appear by three attributes - Motivity, Technique and Advance. So, what exactly do these letters mean when they appear near these attributes?

I'll try to explain in the most simple terms. Every weapon in Lies of P has a base scaling score. Let's say your primary weapon is the Greatsword of Fate Handle from the image below. This greatsword has B scaling for Motivity.

This means that Greatsword of Fate Handle scales great with the Motivity attribute, which means that the more points you invest in Motivity, the greater the damage bonus you'll get for the Greatsword.

In a nutshell, if a weapon has a great scaling score for a specific attribute, it's pretty much telling you that it can be even more powerful if you invest points in that particular attribute.

It's a fairly simple game mechanic but to be fair it can be a bit confusing to newcomers to the genre.

How to improve weapon scaling in Lies of P

Weapon scaling can be improved with Crank items, that can be found in the world. The game features Cranks for each attribute so you'll find Motivity Cranks, Technique Cranks and Advanced Cranks.

You'll use these to alter weapon handles and ultimately improve the weapon's scaling rating. To alter handles, you need to visit female NPC Eugenie in Hotel Krat. She will offer to upgrade your weapons, alter handles and more.

Just make sure to find the right Crank for your weapon handle in order to maximise your build optimisation.
