To initiate the Short-Sighted Ambition quest in Dragon's Dogma 2, you must advance through the story until you reach Bakbattahl. While you don't necessarily need to complete any main missions in the city, you do need access to Battahl. Make your way to the Mercantile Ward and locate Isaac’s Wares.
Purchase any item available. The specific item isn't crucial, as Isaac will give you the wrong thing, triggering a cutscene and activating the side quest. Isaac has been grappling with deteriorating eyesight ever since he began reading a grimoire called On the Transference of Souls.
Concerned, the shopkeeper and his wife will request your assistance in obtaining a ripened quince, as Isaac believes it will aid his eyes.
Locating The Ripened Quince in Dragon's Dogma 2
Quinces are a rare commodity in Dragon’s Dogma 2. You can find quince bushes on the west side of Battahl, located in the desert. However, if you prefer not to venture into the desert, goblins and harpies often drop the required fruit, offering an alternative method to acquire it.
Should you obtain an unripe quince, simply resting on a bench or at the inn for a short while will ripen it. Having multiple quinces in your inventory can expedite the ripening process. Alternatively, you can engage in other quests during this time.
Pro Tip: It's important to ensure that you don't have a Pawn with the Logistician specialisation in your party, as they can inadvertently turn the quince into dried fruit.
Once you've acquired the quince, return it to Isaac and present it to him. However, the Short-Sighted Ambition quest is not yet complete. After a day has passed, revisit the shopkeeper to continue the quest. He will task you with locating the second volume of the grimoire that harmed his eyes.
The Second Grimoire for Short-Sighted Ambition Quest
Before starting on your quest to locate the second grimoire, Isaac’s daughter will approach you, seeking assistance in stopping her father's misguided plan.
However, it's worth noting that this section of the Short-Sighted Ambition quest may not appear for all players due to a bug. Nonetheless, you can still achieve the desired outcome.
Now you need to head to Checkpoint Rest Town in Dragon's Dogma 2 to continue the Short-Sighted Ambition quest. The second grimoire can be found in Ibrahim’s Scrap Store.
Pro Tip: Utilising an oxcart can expedite your journey.
To ensure the "good ending," request Ibrahim to create a forgery of the grimoire. Return after a day to collect the counterfeit.
Remember that the authentic grimoire is titled On the Transference of Souls 2, while the forgery is labelled On the Transit of Souls 2. It's essential to keep them separated to avoid inadvertently providing Isaac with the wrong one.
Which Grimoire to give to Isaac in Dragon's Dogma 2
Upon returning to Bakbattahl, you will face a pivotal decision in the Short-Sighted Ambition quest.
Giving Isaac the Real Grimoire
If you opt to provide Isaac with the real grimoire, he will conduct a ritual resulting in the tragic demise of his entire family.
This option leads to the "bad ending." Isaac will close his shop and depart Bakbattahl, subsequently shutting down Ibrahim’s Scrap Store.
However, this issue can be mitigated by Hugo from the Off the Pilfered Path quest, who can take over the store, allowing Ibrahim to reopen.
In return for your assistance, you will earn 3000 XP and receive the Ring of Disfavour. You can also obtain the ring from Isaac’s wife if you converse with her before giving him the grimoire.
Giving Isaac the Fake Grimoire
Alternatively, presenting Isaac with the counterfeit grimoire will cause the ritual to fail.
Opting for the second choice results in a "good ending." Isaac's family survives, and the shops remain operational. Additionally, you will be rewarded with 3000 XP and 16000 gold. Return after a few days, and Isaac will offer to sell you the first volume of the grimoire.
Combining the two volumes will grant you the single-use spellbook for Celestial Paean. This spell is the ultimate spell of the Mage Maister’s Teachings. However, if you wish to unlock it permanently, you'll need to complete the Spellbound quest.
Whatever decision you make, deliver the selected grimoire to Isaac and accept the consequences. Remember, there's no definitive right or wrong choice in this scenario.
