Treat your loved ones with some New Year's joy with these family-friendly games.
The year 2020 is counting down its last moments (some will say Thank God!), and 2021 is knocking on our door. For well-known reasons, most of us will celebrate the New Year in our home with a close circle of friends and family.
There is nothing wrong with that, on the contrary. However, due to the unfortunate circumstances that have befallen the entire planet, we have no other options. We must not stop sharing love, joy and happiness with people who are dear to our hearts.
Video games make people like us happier all their lives. They are our escape from reality, our oasis, our completely different world where we can be whatever we want to be. We also met a lot of good friends thanks to video games, be it online via the internet, or live, in some smoky playroom, where we played Tekken against some unknown person who became our best friend and later our best man.
Couch-multiplayer has always offered special moments of fun, and since we celebrate the New Year with friends, here is our list of Top 10 New Year's party games for Nintendo Switch, PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series, and PC:
- FIFA 21
Ok, we'll start with obvious. Sports games have always been great for the couch-multiplayer sessions between friends or relatives. FIFA 21 is a great choice with its various game modes. FIFA 21's Kick-Off mode offers even more fun, with the introduction of House Rules: set up a match with a selection of custom rules, including No Rules, Survival, Long Range, First To…, and Headers & Volleys.
- NBA 2K21
For fans of basketball, NBA 2K21 is a great choice with many modes and the ability to download community-made custom rosters. Blacktop mode is always fun in a versus mode, so just like FIFA, it can offer hours and hours of pure fun.
- Just Dance 2021
Just Dance 2021 comes with an insane amount of content for all the family to enjoy. Team up with friends for more fun in our Co-op mode. Co-op mode brings players together to combine scores and rule the dancefloor. This title from Ubisoft will make everybody gasp for breath, while you are trying to land that perfect dance move on "Dance Monkey" by Tones and I. Best played after a few drinks.
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe / Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled
There can be no party games or couch-multiplayer games list without the iconic kart-racers Mario Kart or CTR. Whichever game you own/choose, you cannot go wrong. It's a must-have for any local multiplayer event with the option to play 4-players split-screen.
- Moving Out
Moving Out is a ridiculous physics-based moving simulator that brings new meaning to "couch co-op. Get ready for an exciting time with friends, as you take moving jobs all across the busy town of Packmore.
- Overcooked! 2
Overcooked! 2 is a cooperative cooking simulation game published by Team17. You’ll need to work together (or against each other) to get the highest score in chaotic local and online multiplayer. Team up with up to 3 other chefs and get ready for an insane fun.
- Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Sackboy: A Big Adventure is an adorable 3D platformer filled with imagination, adventure and so much cuteness, and it features a local co-op mode with up to three other players by your side. Every single level in the game can be played with up to four players though. You’ll work together to reach the end of the level, but there’s a bit of competition involved: whoever collects the most orbs on a level will be crowned the winner.
- Super Mario Party
Well, perhaps the most-party game of all the "party-games" on this list. Super Mario Party offers 80 minigames packed with wildly different challenges and clever uses of Joy-Con controllers, for up to 4 players. This game should alone be enough to vouch for a great New Year's Eve.
- Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Smash Bros is one of the best games on Nintendo Switch, and one of the best couch-multiplayer fighting games, because you can team up with up to 7 other people on your Switch console and play 8-players versus battles. Absolute chaos! But keep in mind that you gonna need a LOT of controllers.
- Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2
THPS is back and it's better than ever. This remake is so good you'll want to pay twice for it. THPS's split-screen mode was always a fun ride, and this time it's even better. Local multiplayer exemplifies everything that makes the THPS games shine. It’s about being seen landing complex combos, sharing the excitement and reveling in the competition. There’s plenty to do in THPS. It includes every park and skater from the original two games, plus a handful of newcomers and the option to create your own skater.
