Artificial scarcity in video games refers to developers of a title purposefully removing content in order to create demand for it. In other words, they are purposefully reducing the game's quality just to make you make more impulse purchases.
Rockstar has been experimenting with this in GTA Online by adding cars only for a limited time but now they turned their eyes on existing vehicles as well.
When the San Andreas Mercenaries update kicks in, "lesser-used" vehicles will be removed from the in-game stores to "streamline the browsing experience".
Furthermore, these vehicles will be available through showrooms on rotation, the Lucky Wheel and "other places".
In this case, "streamlining" is just another word for a scheme to push people to subscribe to GTA+. You may think this is quite a leap to connect two seemingly unconnected things but when you read the "Experience Improvements" and the "Vinewood Club" articles one after another, it becomes quite obvious.
Namely, Vinewood Club is just a version of LS Car Meet that is exclusive to GTA+ subscribers and you guessed it - there will be cars on rotation here that can be claimed and purchased. With the artificial scarcity from the removal of vehicles in the regular stores, players will be further pushed to subscribe to Rockstar's "service".
It doesn't take too much imagination to figure out that this is one of those small and seemingly harmless steps that will grow into egregious nickel and diming over time.
