Saber and Focus Home Interactive's zombie shooter World War Z is off to a great start as the companies reported sales of 1 million copies in its first week on the shelves. Apparently, it has scored an equal split across platforms too.
World War Z launched on 16 April 2019 for Playstation 4, Xbox One and the Epic Games Store (EGS) on PC, so it's a pretty great start for the developer and the game.
So far, the zombilicious shooter has scored about an equal split across platforms, i.e. PC, PS4 and Xbox One sales were in the ballpark of one another.
At its peak, World War Z had 70,000 concurrent players in the first week, and judging by the initial response, it seems like the game will keep going from strength to strength.
Interestingly, Saber's CEO Matthew Karch said that World War Z did surprisingly well outside of the US on the EGS. "What surprises us is the fact that sales outside of the U.S. on the Epic Store have been so strong, with the U.S. being only one quarter of sales”, he said.
Now, let's address the elepant in the room - World War Z publisher's decision to move away from Steam has caused a lot of controversy, and many people are downright hoping it fails, so that they can proudly tweet about being right from the start.
We can't say Epic's occasional boasting helps though, as Sergey Galyonkin's data on game streaming made the world plus dog start extrapolating data from Twitch's streaming viewership.
Ultimately, it has been revealed that 80 per cent of World War Z streaming audience disappeared 2 days after launch, but that's barely a metric to base an argument on, especially if you expect it to stand in the face of any scientific scrutiny.

Karch recently stood in defense of Epic's Game Store and Tim Sweeney, Epic's CEO, claiming that he is the most dev friendly person in the industry.
While it's hard to argue with that, we're a bit unsure as to whether Sweeney's benevolence involves the devs from his own company, because recent reports don't suggest so.
