You've got to give it to Rockstar because while they may not launch much - they kill it when they do and Red Dead Redemption 2 has raked in $725 million in the opening weekend alone, which makes it the best opening weekend by a game, ever.
In fact, it makes it the best opening weekend in the history of entertainment, beating even Avengers: Infinity Wars. The latter made $640 million in its maiden voyage and even though Red Dead Redemption 2 is a bit pricier than a ticket to the movies, it doesn't make the feat any less impressive.
Rockstar cited Sony as saying that the game has the highest ever preorders, day one sales and first three-day sales on the PlayStation Network. Sony did play somewhat of a dirty game with Red Dead Redemption 2's advertising but by now we've learned to expect it from them.
Now, the following is a bit of a good and bad news for Rockstar, depending on how you look at things, as Red Dead Redemption 2 isn't the highest grossing first three day period - GTA V is. The company's flagship game has actually made more than $1 billion in the same time frame and it launched on a Tuesday no less.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has got glaring reviews, cruising to just about every 10/10 that can be had. Even with some hilarious glitches, the game can't seem to warrant a bad opinion let alone a negative review, proving that Rockstar have once again outdone themselves.
In the process, Red Dead Redemption 2 also became the head honcho of the year 2018, overtaking Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and and Ubisoft's Far Cry 5. The two made $500 and $310 million, respectively, which although not at all shabby, pales in comparison to Rockstar's stellar numbers.
It really gets difficult trying to figure out how Rockstar will outdo themselves but they somehow always do. And one cannot but wonder whether the crunch was worth it, because we're already looking at an important piece of gaming history dubbed Red Dead Redemption 2.
