NieR: Automata's increased sales have been attributed to Square Enix' hefty one year anniversary discount but it's still a worthy result nevertheless. Capcom's Monster Hunter: World however came in second.

Note that we're talking about PS4 digital sales in Japan for the time period between 26 February and 04 March 2018.

Despite coming in second, Capcom's Monster Hunter: World is still holding strong and has proven it's got more than enough to fend off the competition.

Interestingly enough, Metal Gear Survive comes in third, which just goes to show how fickle a bunch Metal Gear series fans are.

If you listen to them, you'd think nobody would buy a Metal Gear game if it wasn't stamped by their hallowed messiah Hideo Kojima himself. Now, it seems, they all bought the game so they can defecate on it endlessly on forums.

Next up is Girls und Panzer: Dream Tank Match, which we cordially invite you to check out, because it is just as ridiculous and hilarious as the name suggests. We actually feel bad for missing the anime series, but alas, geography, man.

The list itself is as follows:

  • NieR: Automata
  • Monster Hunter World
  • Metal Gear Survive
  • Girls Und Panzer Dream Tank Match
  • Rainbow Six Advanced Edition
  • Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles
  • Undertale
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition
  • Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition
  • Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullett

Other noteworthy mentions include Dragon Ball FighterZ, which came in 13th and our beloved Pro Evolution Soccer 2018, which is in spot 18.

Interestingly enough, the rest of the list is littered with remasters, which once again shows that the gaming industry slowly follows the movie industry, while laughing at it the entirety of the way. Irony, if I've ever seen one.
