Wolfenstein: Youngblood will not be a fully priced AAA game

Wolfenstein: Youngblood will feature the buddy system that will be exclusive to the deluxe edition of the game but as it turns out this edition will be cheaper than a regular AAA-priced game as well, standing at just $40 / €40 / ~£35.

According to Bethesda's official FAQ about Wolfenstein: Youngblood, the standard edition of the game will cost half the price of a regular AAA game and it will only be available in the digital form. Retail editions are apparently all deluxe ones, with the aforementioned pricing, and they will include some skins as well as the buddy pass.

The buddy pass is probably the most interesting part of the deluxe edition as the game is a co-op shooter so it will allow the owner to add one friend who will be able to play in their session without purchasing the game. Having this as a deluxe edition bonus could trigger some questions about the steps Bethesda are taking, but as it turns out even this edition will cost just 66 per cent of a AAA title.

Then again, there is also the matter of the amount of content that the players will be getting. Considering that Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus lasted between five to eight hours, it is possible that Bethesda either had another game made with the same amount of content and decided to drop the price due to what the market demands or that Youngblood could turn out to be even shorter than its predecessors.

The rest of the FAQ turns up some interesting information, showing that Bethesda made some welcome decisions such as letting Panic Button handle the Switch version and some others that are not so welcome, such as microtransactions.

Microtransactions will be for cosmetic items but players will apparently be able to acquire them with currency obtainable through regular gameplay too, although it wasn't specified just how hard they might need to grind for said cosmetics. Then again, if the game turns out to be short, could players really be enticed to purchase cosmetics still?
