Okay, when we say weekend, we mean technically, because Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is going free later today on Steam, so if you're into tidying up some aggressive vermin and checking out whether it's your cup of tea, today's the day.
This is not a Dirty Jobs episode, of course, so it's not exactly pest control we're talking about here - Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a co-op-oriented slash-fest that pits you against the Chaos army and Skaven, the rat-looking fellows.
Players get to choose from the pool of five characters, with 15 careers among them differentiating their skills and abilities. If you're completely new to the game, expect a lot of hacking and slashing, which Fatshark pulled of in a way that not only looks good - it feels great too.
Warhammer: Vermintide 2's freebie only covers the base game, which features 13 missions and is more than enough for a test drive. You can also gain access to the DLC, but you'll have to know someone who already owns it and pester him until he invites you to check out more of the game.
As usual, should you end up falling for Warhammer: Vermintide 2, your progress will carry over into the full game and, speaking of the full game, Fatshark knocked the price off by 75 per cent. In other words, if the price was your issue - it won't be real soon.
If you'd rather gauge Warhammer: Vermintide 2's popularity by numbers, you should know it broke half a million sold copies in four days, taking four weeks to break a million, so no slouch in the sales department.
Naturally, if you'd rather make up your own mind, you can check out Warhammer: Vermintide 2's trailer above, or head on over to the game's Steam page
and check out other user reviews. If the game doesn't display as free yet, don't worry - it will soon.
