PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds recently got a brand new map called Vikendi and we spent some time trying to win the chicken dinner on its snowy wastelands. It's a great addition to PUBG but some old issues are still plaguing the game.
Last week, Bluehole finally dropped another major update for PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds which included a long-awaited snow map - Vikendi. It's safe to say that PUBG is not the world's biggest game for a long time now, as Fortnite's popularity is growing steadily with each passing day. But Vikendi could help PUBG pick up the pace and attract those who gave up on it a long time ago.
Straight to it, Vikendi is fun and well-designed map. Keep in mind that our opinion might be biased because the snowy setting is our favourite. Also, we're in the middle of the Holiday season which sets us in a special mood when we enjoy snow-themed content more than we should and Vikendi certainly has a lot of that to offer.
On a serious note though, frozen wastelands of Slovenia are PUBG's best map since the original Erangel. Vikendi is well balanced with just enough variety for everyone's taste. Cities, villages, factories, frozen lakes, dense forest and rivers - Vikendi has it all.
It's also sized perfectly. It fits right between the huge Erangel and smaller Sanhok. Bluehole may just found the ideal size which will suit both those who prefer smaller maps with faster action and big territories for players who like sneaking their way into the top ten. It's the sweet spot that both sets of players will appreciate after "in your face action" from Sanhok and Erangel's tedious gameplay.

One of the biggest features on Vikendi is certainly the footprints tracking. Players will be able to tell if the enemy is in close proximity by closely looking for clues in the snow and we have to say that this adds another layer of possibilities to PUBG's combat. We already experienced some tense gunfights after discovering footprints which led us to a player who was camping in one of the buildings.
He had no clue we're looking at him through our sniper scope and moments like this show just how important it is to avoid snow as much as possible and always keep your eyes open no matter how safe and quite everything looks.
Avoiding snow is easier said than done because Vikendi is a snow map after all, but there are some grass parts in forests and fields which can be used to break your tracks and confuse the opponents.
Vikendi is also PUBG's most beautiful map and a perfect example just how badly designed Miramar was. Don't get us wrong, it can be fun, but it's just ugly and it's clear that Bluehole learned a lot from it. Yes, deserts are plain, empty and ugly but that doesn't have to be the case if the map had interesting locations or some unique features like Vikendi.
It's great to see that once again more than people played PUBG which shows just how important the Vikendi update really is. Make no mistake, the popular battle-royale has still a long way to go as some issues that have been flooding the game since day one are still present.
The annoying lag and overall optimisation should be Bluehole's number one priority and there's still a fair amount of cheaters destroying everyone's good time. PUBG Corp took some steps to solve the issue though.
All in all, we're enjoying Vikendi and just can't get enough of it at the moment. How long will it last? Who knows, but it's great that Bluehole is injecting a much-needed content to their flagship.
