Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia is already available on and , with Creative Assembly announcing that Mac OS and Linux versions will follow shortly.
The game is a standalone title with a regular singleplayer campaign. Players can choose between 10 playable factions from Anglo-Saxons, Gaelic clans, Welsh tribes or Viking settlers. Naturally, Total War Saga: Thrones of Britannia
Total War is famed for delivering realistic depictions of ancient warfare and deliver they did. Creative Assembly have done a great job modelling Ireland and Great Britain, ensuring a proper terrain for the bloodshed that will inevitably ensue.
There were some tweaks to battle mechanics in Thrones of Britannia as well, so as to closely portray the type of warfare in 878AD. This was a time notable for walls of densely packed shielded soldiers and Creative Assembly made sure Total War follows the formula.
In practice, this means that infantry charging is not particularly potent but there's a catch. Namely, the wall grants incredible cavalry charge defence capabilities, provided a unit is stationary and facing enemy cavalry.
Total War: Thrones of Britannia goes for £29.99 in the UK or $/€39.99 for the unfortunate souls outside of imperial borders.
In case you're not familiar with Total War, you should be - the franchise has been around for a while and is notable for historically accurate depictions of ancient warfare. In other words, a lot of fun.
