Champions like Ryze, Azir, Kalista, Udyr, Aatrox, Aphelios, Kog'Maw, Heimerdinger, Amumu, and Rumble are among the worst champions in ranked games.

While some League of Legends champions always shine in the meta, others hardly make their presence known. Be it through outdated kits, poor scaling, or simply being overshadowed by stronger picks, there are some champions that underperform in the ranked sphere.

Knowing some of these struggling champions helps one avoid frustrations and helps players get a more focused pick for better performances.

These "worst" champions aren't exactly unplayable but many times require a lot more effort to succeed than their counterparts. Many of them suffer due to meta shifts, Riot's balance changes, or competition in their role. While some players enjoy being the underdog, mastering underwhelming champions, it's clear these picks have an uphill battle in this patch.

The champions struggling the most in ranked games

1. Ryze (Mid Lane)

  • Pick Rate: 1.2%
  • Win Rate: 44.9%

Ryze has a very high skill ceiling and is very coordination reliant, which makes him an absolute nightmare for solo queue players. He scales really poorly without a strong team.

2. Azir - Mid Lane

  • Pick Rate: 2%
  • Win Rate: 45.2%

Despite flashing mechanics, Azir has very high mana costs, a hard learning curve, and subpar early-game power, making him weak in many matchups.

3. Kalista - AD Carry

  • Pick Rate: 1.5%
  • Win Rate: 46.7%

Kalista needs synergy with her support, which is very hard to do in solo queue. Her complete lack of mobility compared to meta ADCs further reduces her viability.

4. Udyr (Jungle)

  • Pick Rate: 2.3%
  • Win Rate: 45.8%

Udyr has an extremely predictable playstyle, with limited range to work with, so he's easily kited and countered. He has really struggled to adapt into the fast-pace junglemeta.

5. Aatrox -Top Lane

  • Pick Rate: 3.8%
  • Win Rate: 46.2%

Aatrox has fallen off from being a dominant pick due to the nerfs and lack of sustain against tank-heavy matchups.

6. Aphelios, AD Carry

  • Pick Rate: 2.5%
  • Win Rate: 46.1%

Aphelios is a champion that deals very much damage but has really complicated mechanics; hence, his mastery will take time, and picking him may be too much risk for the average player.

7. Kog'Maw - AD Carry

  • Pick Rate: 0.8%
  • Win Rate: 44.5%

Kog'Maw struggles to compete with other ADCs because he's such an immobile carry that requires strong peel; this can be pretty rare in solo queue games.

8. Heimerdinger (Support/Top)

  • Pick Rate: 1.1%
  • Win Rate: 45.3%

While Heimerdinger does have those niche, disruptive situations, many meta champions actually easily counter his turrets, so his overall impact is incredibly diminished.

9. Amumu - Support/Jungle

  • Pick Rate: 4%
  • Win Rate: 45.9%

Amumu has strong crowd control; however, he is rather predictable with just low mobility and relying on landing Bandage Toss.

10. Rumble (Top/Mid)

  • Pick Rate: 1.6%
  • Win Rate: 46.4%

Rumble has difficulty competing with the power of other top and mid picks, facing a hard time with ranged champions poking him out early. These champions could be considered underperforming but still have potential in the hands of more experienced players or in specific team compositions.

But for most ranked games, it is better to avoid these picks and focus on other champions that are considered much better for the current meta.
