The general consensus seems to be that Breath of the Wild accomplished everything it set out to do. The puzzles are challenging but never loose their charm, the world is vast and open with the only limitation being the level of Link's abilities and weapons. The game took the very well known Zelda formula and improved on it in ways most reviewers found unexpected, refreshing and promising to the future of the franchise.
Majority of kind words go towards how open the world is - no barriers requiring a special item to let the player through. The game is said to be forgiving and encouraging even to the player's curiosity and the will to experiment with its physics. Lack of a discernable tutorial is another aspect to which praises are being sung.
The only parts of the overall experience that are said to be suboptimal are the fact that the user is not given the option to re-map the control buttons, and an occasional framerate drop while Switch is docked.
