Unknown Worlds Entertainment have officially started reshaping Subnautica: Below Zero's storyline, but the new update dubbed Frostbite also brings Quantum Lockers, snowballs, water purification tablets and more.
"In an effort to uncover the truth behind what happened to her sister, Robin Ayou set out alone to Planet 4546B. Once aboard the small craft that would take her to the planet surface, things did not go as planned. What’s worse? She’s not alone", the dev wrote.
If you've been following Subnautica: Below Zero development, you know that the dev is rewriting most of the story. The game will retain the parts that worked, though, so it's not a total recall, but the changes should be evident from the start as Robin is said to be way chattier than her predecessor .
As for Frostbite, its launch brings the return of Glacial Basin and Glacial Bay to "their natural state", with a network of caves hiding below.
Quantum Lockers should make Subnautica: Below Zero's item management significantly easier, offering the type of storage available anywhere. Also added are the surface beacons, just in case you get easily lost on land too.
Frostbite's snowballs are not just a limited-time gag mind you - they can help you fend off Snow Stalkers and even be turned into drinkable water. For that, you'll need the newly added Water Purification Tablets as well.
Subnautica: Below Zero's world will continue to change in order to fit the new story, and Unknown Worlds think players will love the changes in the Lilypad Connection and Thermal Vents regions.
Frostbite also brings UI improvements, which includes the cold-meter, resource caches with an abundance of various resources hiding within, and last but not least - gradually transitioning weather, where the transitions will double up as warnings as well.
