Japanese gaming giant Sega have officially announced the acquisition of Farnham-based Two Point Hospital developer Two Point Studios. The studio becomes the first acquisition stemming directly from Sega Europe's Searchlight program.
British-based developer Two Point Studios have officially joined Sega Europe family its been announced today by the gaming giant Sega. As the name suggests, Two Point Studios are the development team behind a hospital simulation and building game from 2018 - Two Point Hospital.
The acquisition is the first to stem directly from Sega Europe's Searchlight program, which is Sega's initiative to search for talented smaller studios and intellectual property opportunities for the publisher. Sega have been involved with Two Point since they agreed to publish Two Point Hospital back in 2017.
In their announcement, Sega Europe president and COO Gary Dale said the company knew they have to quickly wrap up the deal as Two Point Studios are an attractive studio with a lot of great talent.
"As a relatively new, British-based developer with a global hit already under their belts, we knew we had to move quickly on this deal because they are an extremely attractive investment proposition with a great deal of talent. The Searchlight team at Sega Europe have done a fantastic job integrating the studio over the past two years and the studio have gone on to produce a fantastic title with clear franchise potential," Dale said.
Mark Webley of Two Point Studios sad this is a landmark step for the developer and that they are thrilled to be joining the Sega family. According to Webley, the team are looking forward to executing the next phase of their plans as they continue to build Two Point County.
"It's a hugely exciting time to be a part of Two Point and we are here today thanks to the hard work, passion and dedication of our small, but amazingly talented team here in Farnham and the incredible fans that have supported us throughout and guided our continued development of Two Point Hospital," Webley concluded.
Sega said that Two Point Studios currently have multiple unannounced titles in the works and more about these will be revealed in the upcoming months.
Two Point Studios were founded on 26 July 2016 by Ben Hymers, Mark Webley and Gary Carr. Before they partnered up, Carr and Webley worked on Theme Hospital, Black and White and the Fable series.
