Facepunch Studios are celebrating the Lunar New Year by adding more stuff to spice up the survival adventures in Rust as well as returning some items from the time out vault in order to make the in-game festivities feel complete.

Year of the Rat brought a new content update for Rust, although the content here refers to a few items rather than a full-blown expansion pack or something along those lines.

The new content will go live on 23 January 2020 at 11:00 AM PT / 7:00 PM GMT. Players will then be able to get the new items to celebrate the occasion with fireworks, firecrackers, an instrument, cosmetics and some returning items. They will all be tied to the marketplace.

Full list of the new items is as follows:

  • Rat Mask - self-explanatory and it will let players somewhat embody the animal the year is named after
  • Fireworks - New Year celebrations are seldom complete without fireworks and they are even more significant in Chinese culture so it's no wonder these are being added to Rust as well
  • Deployable Gong - is the new instrument. Just like the fireworks, the gong will be quite the noisemaker but players can activate it in more than one way. They can either hit or shoot it to trigger the sounds.

Those who missed out on seasonal items from before will be able to pick them up during Year of the Rat celebration. Dragon Door Knocker and Dragon Mask will both be returning for the duration of the event.

Considering these are all microtransactions, one might want to just steer away and enjoy a good old base gank and pillage or simple material farming while hoping no feels like pulling the aforementioned shenanigan.
