Psyonix are getting ready for more New Year's celebrations, except this time it's the Chinese New Year, or Lunar if you prefer. Dubbed Lucky Lanterns, the event brings a brand new and delicious-looking Forbidden Temple Arena and more.
Lucky Lanterns kicks off on 20 January 2020, so you'll have five days to get into the groove before starting any celebrations. We're not judging - one can never have enough New Year's celebrations, let alone in-game events, right?
It's pretty evident that Psyonix are recreating the iconic celebrations you may have seen across China, Korea and elsewhere. By the looks of it, they've done a great job too.
"Play Online Matches to earn Red Envelopes, which can then be redeemed for items like the Paper Dragon Topper and the Fortune Wheels. You can also use Red Envelopes to unlock Golden Lanterns, which contain items from Champions Series 1, 2, and 3", the dev wrote.
As you'd expect, you can find new, Chinese New Year-themed items in the Rocket League Item Shop so as to look the part, and there's a free gift you get just for logging in. The exact schedule is as follows:
- Lucky Lanterns begins: January 20, 2020 10 a.m. PST (6:00 p.m. UTC)
- Lucky Lanterns ends: February 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. PST (6:00 p.m. UTC)
- Redeem Red Envelopes by: February 13, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.PST (6:00 p.m. UTC)
If you're more interested in the esports side of things, you should know that Collegiate Rocket League is back for the Spring Season and Psyonix are giving out $75,000 in scholarships. Winners from the Fall 2019 Season qualify automatically, while the rest will be made up of top 8 teams per conference via Open Qualifiers.
