PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has sold 3 million copies since its Steam Early Access launch on 23 March 2017. Currently, the battle royale hit is holding third place on Steam's top games list, right behind DOTA 2 and CS:GO and just above its main competitor H1Z1.
The game is selling at an incredible rate, managing to push about a million copies each month since its arrival on Steam, at roughly £27 a pop. That is a LOT of money.
H1Z1: King of the Hill has sold about 5,6 million copies since its launch 16 months ago, and if PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds keeps growing in popularity a mass player migration is quite likely - meaning that a lot of H1Z1 players might move to Battlegrounds, once H1Z1 servers become deserted enough. It's a snowball kind of effect.
Meanwhile, the game's creator Brendan 'PlayerUnknown' Greene has revealed a lot of plans and possible directions the game might be heading. New maps and islands are a certainty, and those maps will supposedly only get bigger and handle more players with time. There is also a decent chance of a campaign mode being added sometime after the definitive PC launch, and a console port is an absolute certainty.
