Marketing has a way of gradually pumping things up. A short while ago Obsidian started of with some mysterious . A behind the scenes focused on the making of Pillars of Eternity soon followed.
Now a full on sequel to Pillars of Eternity has been announced, titled Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Like its predecessor, the new title will is being crowdfunded. Rather than KickStarter, Obsidian went for (with Feargus Urquhart on the advisory board) as their platform of choice and the project has already accumulated 93 per cent of its necessary funding at the time of writing. One million dollars, within a day.

This time around the developers have promised all the praised features and content of the first game, with numerous additions like a more dynamic simulation of city life and changing weather effects.
"Eothas has returned. The god of light and rebirth was thought dead, but he now inhabits the stone titan that sat buried under your keep, Caed Nua, for millennia. Ripping his way out of the ground, he destroys your stronghold and leaves you at the brink of death. To save your soul, you must track down the wayward god and demand answers – answers which could throw mortals and the gods themselves into chaos." That much is known about the game's story so at this point.

No exact release date has been set yet, and developers have announces an approximate early 2018 launch. So far it looks like a PC exclusive release and will be distributed both via Steam and GOG.
