Blizzard explained how cross-play and cross-progression will work in Overwatch 2, leaving many controller players disappointed.

Overwatch 2 will fuse the existing player bases by allowing cross-platform interaction, which brings its own challenges. With the AMA on Reddit , Blizzard elaborated on how all of this will work.

First, cross-play will be possible between console and PC players and so will cross-progression . This also means you can carry over any skins and other unlocks you have to any platforms that support cross-progression.

This is all good so far but mixing KB+M and gamepad players obviously has a few hiccups, such as those on controllers requiring aim assist to keep up. Unfortunately for them, aim assist will always be disabled if you are going into a game with someone on a PC.

Currently, Blizzard has no intentions of enabling aim assist for console players in such scenarios, and this will undoubtedly put console players at a disadvantage. As such, PC and console players will not be able to match in competitive play.

Console players will likely be disappointed by the way the system works and so will PC players who planned on joining competitive with their console friends.

It may be for the best, however, since aim assist is almost always a point of contention between the controller and KBM players.
