The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

Daedelic Entertainment have announced a new Lord of the Rings game titled Gollum. It's a narrative-driven adventure from a brand new perspective and it's scheduled to release in 2021 for PC and all relevant consoles at that time.

If you were hoping that the next Lord of the Rings game could be a sequel to The Battle for Middle Earth II or Lord of the Rings Online, you'll probably be disappointed to hear that it won't be anything like EA's iconic strategy or Turbine's MMO.

Instead, we're getting a story from a totally different, never seen before perspective. The game will follow a slimy creature Gollum and it's a narrative-driven adventure. The story is set before the events in the movies where Gollum is already in the possession of the One Ring.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is developed by German development team Daedalic Entertainment, who are known for creating point-and-click adventures such as The Whispered World and Deponia series.

According to Carsten Fichtelmann, Daedalic CEO, who spoke with PC Gamer, Gollum's split personality will make a huge impact on the gameplay, and players will often have to make decisions and will hear different voices talking to them.

Also, Gollum will be able to change his mind during the story which could suggest that the creature may refuse to do certain actions.

Daedalic's Gollum will not be Andy Serkis version of the character as the developer have rights to the books and not the movies, meaning that we're getting another version of Gollum.

Gollum is built on the Unreal Engine, and at the moment, there are no concept art or early screenshots that could suggest a potential graphical style of the game.

As for the release date, well, it's not coming soon. Daedalic only mentioned that they are aiming for 2021 release on PC and all relevant platforms at that time.

Those who are familiar with Gollum will know that he's a pretty weak and small creature so expect more adventure than action. Our guess is that The Lord of the Rings: Gollum may be a stealth-focused game.

Thanks, .
