Need for Speed Heat is getting its final update tomorrow, June 9, 2020. The update will bring a bunch of improvements to the game, one of which is cross-play. A new Need for Speed game is now in development.
Matt Webster, General Manager of Criterion Games wrote an announcement on EA's Need for Speed website detailing Need for Speed Heat's new cross-play feature that will go live tomorrow, June 9, 2020, and a new Need for Speed game, in development by Criterion.
Need for Speed Heat cross-play
Webster stated that on June 9, Need for Speed Heat will become the first EA title to offer cross-play, meaning that players - regardless of their platform - can jump into Palm City and play together.
You will have the option to race players across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One once you install the new update. Patch notes can be perused here .
Players will be able to search for friends who are playing on any of the above systems, given they’ve opted in for cross-play as well, inside the Find Players menu. From there, you'll want to go to the new EA Friends tab in the Party Menu to see who’s online to play with.
A new Need for Speed game
Webster shared that the folks at Criterion will now focus on developing the next Need for Speed game and that tomorrow's update will be the final patch for Need for Speed Heat.
Need for Speed Heat will become part of the EA Access and Origin Access Basic Vault on June 16, which will allow all subscribers to enter Palm City.
