2K have announced the cover athlete of NBA 2K21 for next-generation platforms. Gracing the cover of next-gen is New Orleans Pelicans' power forward, Zion Williamson.

2K have officially revealed their NBA 2K21 cover athlete for the current-generation of platforms yesterday. The Portland Trail Blazers' point guard, Damian Lillard, was selected to be the face of the game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch and Google Stadia.

Shifting their attention to the next-generation of consoles, 2K have announced that the cover athlete for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X is going to be Zion Williamson of the New Orleans Pelicans. The 2019 #1 Overall Pick and consensus 2019 National College Player of the Year was featured in the game's first teaser during the PS5 event, so this news doesn't exactly come as a massive surprise.

The fact that Zion is a newcomer to the league himself - one extremely promising at that - makes choosing the New Orleans Pelicans' power forward as the cover star of the next-generation of NBA 2K basketball a rather fitting and sensible decision.

Speaking about this great honour, Zion had this to say: "Being on the cover of NBA 2K has been a dream since I was a kid and to be the first NBA 2K21 cover athlete for the next-generation of gaming is really special. Since the day I joined Team 2K, I've wanted to make an impact on basketball culture both on and off the court, and being the cover athlete for NBA 2K21 on next-gen consoles lets me do that. I can't wait to be part of this global phenomenon and hoop with all the ballers out there on NBA 2K21."

Alfie Brody, the VP of Marketing at NBA 2K, stated that: "For the cover of the next-generation version of NBA 2K21, we wanted to find someone who could represent the next-generation of NBA superstar. Zion is one of the few young players who has met the hype and can be considered a standard bearer for the next generation. We're thrilled that he is representing the 2K21."

Tomorrow, on July 2, the publisher will announce the final cover athlete for NBA 2K21, together with the game's release date and pricing. Pre-orders will be available from said date as well.
