Riot Games held voting on League of Legends champions that the players want to see reworked the most, back in 2019. Volibear and Fiddlesticks won and now Riot are bringing more info on the progress, including the free Eldritch horror skin.

Riot Games already talked about both Volibear and Fiddlesticks reworks via the champion roadmaps. They mentioned they wanted to make Fiddle more centred on the fear mechanic and theme and now they reiterated they want the fear mechanic to be the focus of the scarecrow's kit. Furthermore, the truly encapsulated the creepy monster he is supposed to be.

However, his rework seems to be a bit further away from release than Volibear's, on which the team had a lot more info to share. The image above has already been shared and Riot once again repeated they want the bear to look more savage. While that's not exactly news, they did reveal their plans to indulge the fan fantasies that spawned since the vote ended.

Namely, some fans have been asking for the new Volibear to have an Eldritch horror thematic with tentacles, Cthulhu marks and whatnot. The team did not agree with this vision for Voli's default state so they just went with their own. On the other hand, the fans will not be let down since Riot will release a skin with Eldritch thematic as soon as the reworked Volibear rolls out.

This skin will be free to any Volibear owners as well as those who purchase the champion during the patch in which the rework goes live. Estimating a guess based on Riot's usual patch deployment, this means people will have roughly two weeks to get Volibear if they didn't own him already, in order to get the free skin. After the initial period is over, it will become a regularly purchasable skin.

It appears Riot Games liked the idea of players voting on champion reworks and are aiming to repeat the process in 2020/21. Another poll will be held in 2020, players will vote, and the reworks they wish for will roll out in 2021.
