Square Enix have reported that their action RPG Kingdom Hearts III has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide. These impressive numbers include both physical and digital sales across all platforms since the launch on 29 January 2019.
The final chapter in the Dark Seeker saga has enjoyed a successful start and positive reviews from both critics and fans of the franchise. The latest report from Square Enix shows that Kingdom Hearts III also recorded some impressive sale numbers.
According to publisher's data, Kingdom Hears III sold more than 5 million copies worldwide since its launch last week. These numbers include both physical and digital sales from both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
When compared to the previous titles in the saga, Kingdom Hearts III sales reveal just how big its first week actually is. The first game, Kingdom Hearts sold around 6.3 million, while the sequel, Kingdom Hearts II, stands at 5.3 million. This means that the latest instalment is on the path to smash the lifetime sales of previous games in its first month.
Of course, these sale numbers make sense given the anticipation for Kingdom Hearts III. The previous game was released more than 10 years ago so it's safe to say that fans have been waiting for a conclusion of the story for quite some time.

Earlier his week, UK Weekly revealed that Square Enix's creation dethroned Capcom's remake of the survival horror Resident Evil 2. The majority of physical sales were on PlayStation 4, 82 per cent of them to be exact. Kingdom Hearts III is also the first game in the series to top the UK Sales Charts.
All in all, after positive reception and high review scores, the sale numbers come as a cherry on top for Square Enix who certainly hit the nail on the head with their latest title.
Kingdom Hearts III was originally announced back in 2013 after years of rumours and speculation. The game sees many returning gameplay elements such as hack and slash combat but also expands parties to five characters total.
