Halo Infinite to reset competitive ranks next week

Halo Infinite is bringing improvements to competitive skill ranking (CSR) and that means the current ranks will be wiped next week.

CSR ranks in Halo Infinite are getting a reset on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, in order to implement upgrades that the devs have prepared. Once the update is done, everyone will be able to get an upgraded CSR that will be more accurate and won't have as many holes that contribute to inaccurate approximations and by extent - to imbalanced matches.

In a nutshell, 343 figured out that CSR system was too generous since the launch, leading to rank inflation so when the update happens, most players will likely end up one tier lower. For example, Diamon players will be pushed back to Platinum, Silver to Bronze etc.

One of the highlights of the CSR changes is that completing placement matches will result in a little lower CSR than what the system predicts will be your peak in the near future. This way, each CSR reset in the future will give players an incentive to play ranked matches as they have some room for progression.

Furthermore, the reset effect will be reduced because this is a mid-season reset so it's not planned to be egregious initially. On top of that, the mid-season reset means the removal of the upper limit of Diamond 1 after the placement matches. Instead, the limit will be pushed to Diamond 5, allowing high-skilled players to reach Onyx with less grind.

Just remember not to get discouraged if your rank drops - you are still likely to achieve a higher rank by the end of the season.
