Ghost Recon Wildlands Special Operation 4 is out on 27 February 2019 and the update will bring a new PvE game mode called Guerrilla. It is a horde mode where players fight harder enemies with each wave, akin to Resistance in The Division.

Horde mode is nothing new in video games but it offers some longevity as pretty much every incarnation of it proved to have high replayability. Such was the case in The Division's Resistance mode where players were able to farm some decent gear, but it also provided a fresh-enough challenge to keep them occupied for a while.

It seems like Ubisoft are going the same route with Ghost Recon Wildlands. While The Division crossover was expected and asked for by fans, it didn't happen. What Special Operation 04 brought is a bit of a throwback though as Resistance and Guerrilla modes feel extremely similar, even more so than compared to other horde modes.

Guerrilla will pit players up against enemies that will come in wave, with each wave having increased difficulty. This is sort of a universal rule for horde modes but several mechanics make it feel a lot like Resistance. For example, after each round finishes, players will have some time to purchase weapons or resupplies just like in The Division. The only difference is that players are not opening caches to get new gear to keep, they are just purchasing temporary better gear to help them survive.

Prestige, experience and resources will all be awarded throughout Guerrilla stages. Those who manage to complete all of the waves will get an exclusive reward that has not been specified at the time of writing. The developers mentioned that it will be quite the challenge to complete even for the seasoned players though.

Aside from Guerrilla, a few features were introduced with Special Operations 04, such as being able to set the time of day in solo mode and compass from Ghost War will be available in the main campaign. There is also a pile of items added to the game's store and loot boxes.
