Ghost of Tsushima Legends, the online multiplayer experience is getting a standalone release on August 20, 2021, Sony officially announced. Legends is also getting new mode called Rivals on September 3.
Sony today announced a free update for Ghost of Tsushima Legends, the game's online multiplayer mode.
The publisher revealed Rival, which is a brand new mode coming to Legends on September 3, with new cosmetics and Trophies included. In Rivals, two teams of players compete to defeat waves of enemies and with each defeated foe, you get Magatama that can be used to block your opponents' purchases, all sorts of curses that drain health and more.
Once your team spends enough Magatama, you'll unlock Final Stand waves and the team that completes these quicker will win the match.
Sony also confirmed that Ghost of Tsushima Legends will soon become available as a standalone purchase, for those who are interesting in trying the multiplayer mode specifically.
This new standalone version of Legends will be available on PlayStation Store starting on September 3 for $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99 on PS4 or PS5 consoles. With the exception of some cosmetics that can only be unlocked via the single-player campaign, this is the same Legends content accessible by owners of Ghost of Tsushima, so you’ll have access to the content released in 2020 in addition to everything new described above.
Last but not least, the team is releasing the Gear Mastery system along with Rivals. They say this is a new expansion of the progression systems and rewards for Legends.
Players who've earned 110-level gear will now be able to bind it to a class and activate Mastery Challenges. This will allow a piece of gear's Ki level to be upgraded to 120 and eventually unlock a second perk slot! As you activate Mastery Challenges, you can also unlock a new Ability and new Techniques for each class.
