We are getting glimpses of what content may come in the Canthan expansion for Guild Wars 2 and the devs have now confirmed that new elite specialisations are part of it.
Guild Wars 2 players have been hoping for new abilities and specialisations to refresh the current meta and the lack of major balancing lately had them worried.
However, this turned out to be a good thing since the balance team didn't simply take a break from the game - they were working on elite specialisations which will become available with the End of Dragons expansion.
Some have already theorised this is the case but it was Robert Gee who confirmed that his team is " currently busy working on some cool Canthan elite specs ". This confirmation is as official as it gets since it's first hand, from a developer directly working on the systems.
That said, it remains to be seen how many combinations of weapons and their skills developments can pull off before it starts feeling like archetypes are losing their identity.
Halberds used to be a weapon type that was usable on land before they were reworked prior to GW2's release so a hopeful fan could theorize that a similar archetype would be a good addition in the future.
Besides the new specialisations, the things we can mostly expect are new meta events, story chapters, possibly new means of traversing the landscape and beautiful scenery of Shing Jea, Jade Sea and Echovald Forest.
