Konami have rolled out the official reveal trailer for eFootball PES 2021, setting the date for September 15, 2020, and recreating some truly iconic footballing moments.
We must admit, given Konami's poor handling of the decision to make eFootball PES 2021 a Season Update for PES 2020 rather than a full-fledged game, we didn't expect them to come up with a trailer that hits in the feels.
They recreated several iconic goals, like Messi's jinking run and goal from 2007 and Beckham's surgical long-ranger from 1996. Including Oliver Kahn was a nice touch as well, and how can we forget the Rolls Royce of footballers, Denis Bergkamp, and his 2002 masterclass in ball control against Leverkusen.
Now, depending on how you look at it, PES skipping a year can be a disappointment or reason to be even more excited. This year hasn't exactly been notable for football, quite the contrary, so it actually made sense for Konami to take a break.
Konami confirmed that PES 2022 will be switching to Epic's Unreal Engine, which is great news and bodes well for the future of the franchise. Players are giving up what's been a pretty uneventful footballing year, in exchange for an overhaul that's been a long-time coming - not a shabby deal.
Touted for release in late 2021, Konami have ample time to bring the game over to UE and polish it to perfection. Furthermore, with Fortnite running on everything from phones to supercomputers, there's no reason why PES 2022 couldn't do the same and finally establish itself as the number one friend-losing football simulator in the world, regardless of the platform it's on.
