As was rumoured at the beginning of June 2020, Konami will indeed skip development and publishing of eFootball PES 2021, and replace it with a content pack for PES 2020.
Back then , the Australian Classification website posted an entry that reads eFootball PES 2021 with the Content Update moniker.
We were trying really hard to be optimistic and consider the possibility that Konami is delivering UEFA Euro 2020 DLC under that product name, but no - it was real.
So, eFootball PES 2021 is merely a content update for PES 2020 and the product description reads, "The eFootball PES 2021 Season Update features the same award winning gameplay as last year's eFootball PES 2020 along with various team and player updates for the new season. Also comes with the UEFA EURO 2020 mode - all at a special anniversary price."
We suspect that hard-core fans aren't going to be pleased with the news, but if there's any consolation - they do get Euro 2020 DLC and any roster changes at what Konami call a "special anniversary price". Unfortunately, we're not sure what that price is at the moment, but it should be revealed soon.
That said, 2020 hasn't exactly been awesome for sports, what with the COVID-19 crisis now suddenly becoming a political discourse instead of something humans should tackle as a race. Oh well, at least football sports organisations kept their wits about them.
According to Microsoft's listing, eFootball PES 2021 content update is just over 100MB, so downloading it won't take long.
Konami also wrote, "Due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19, certain real-world football leagues and/or tournaments may undergo sudden regulation changes. As a result, there is a chance that in-game regulations may not perfectly match their real life counterparts. Other changes that impact leagues and tournaments may also be implemented in future updates without prior notice."
