The International 2019 is technically already underway with the group stage but once that concludes, the main event will kick off as players battle it out for the biggest prize in esports history - champions will get at least $15 million.
Dota 2's TI9 group stage is underway with just two days remaining until we get the results and see who goes to the top bracket, lower bracket and which two teams will get eliminated from the tournament. From the looks at the time of writing, it seems like it will be European Chaos Esports Club and North American Evil Geniuses.
The latter are responsible for one of the biggest comebacks and the iconic $6.000.000 Echo Slam but that happened four years ago with only Suma1L still on the roster from that legendary lineup. Still, the current roster placed 3rd in TI9 and it's a bit of a shock to see them on the verge of being eliminated before the playoffs even start.
On the other side of the spectrum, Team Secret and Vici Gaming look dominant in their groups with each team winning all of their six respective matches so far.
Speaking of playoffs, they will start on 20 August 2019 and you can follow the live stream on the official Twitch channel or pop up here occasionally for periodic updates.
Whoever wins the whole thing can look forward to the biggest payout in the history of esports. The first place will get $15 million at least while the full prize pool was $33 million at the time of writing.
This means that the winning team's players will earn $3 million each but that's before any deductions such as organisation cuts so the full winnings of each team's players are not as transparent since the cut is left at their discretion.
If you look closely, that is more than twice the size of the winnings EG has in 2015 when the aforementioned $6.000.000 Echo Slam.
There is still a few days to go until Battle Pass purchases stop contributing to the prize pool but the rewards have been inflated enough.
