Arkane Studios have stated that Dishonored 3 will not be coming any time soon during QuakeCon 2018. The developers seem to be intent on creating new games and if a sequel eventually does come out, it will not just be more Dishonored.
Following QuakeCon 2018, Arkane Studios' focus will continue to be immersive games with deep narrative and intricate worlds, but even though Dishonored fits the description perfectly, a third entry into the series will not be in Arkane Studios' plans any time soon.
Lead designer of Dishonored, Ricardo Bare, talked with VG247 during QuakeCon where he said the series is "resting for now". It is rather odd Arkane managed to persuade Bethesda to drop one of their golden geese for a while, but here we are.
Technically, the first Dishonored was a golden goose, but the sequel not so much in spite of some critical acclaim and warm players reception on top. The game scored 86 on Metacritic for its PC version and 88 for PS4, but players had somewhat more tempered impressions, with 6.7 on Metacritic and 79 per cent positive reviews on Steam.
It's considered a good game regardless, but it didn't fare as well as the original Dishonored in terms of sales. This could be the main reason why Dishonored 3 is not happening any time soon, but Bare also stated they are attempting to integrate some form of multiplayer into their games that isn't simply a "tacked on" deathmatch.
The higher share of focus going to multiplayer implies they will be looking to make an attempt at games as a service model which seems to be consuming the industry. These days as it is by far the most profitable approach, with continued revenue long after the initial AAA priced sale.

Another takeaway from Bare and VG247's is that he mentioned Arkane focused on making games in first person perspective so far, but it's not off the table that they make a third person one. Why not add more potential for paid cosmetics, right?
