What used to be a mode in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is now a free-to-play standalone available on Steam
Deus Ex: Breach used to be just a game mode in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. Now, the mode has been listed on as a free, standalone title. Deus Ex: Breach offers an arcade approach with the option of quicker play sessions, and does not require the base game to play.
Breach mode offers a merged puzzle solving - shooter experience as the player's avatar hacks into the Palisade bank's servers and extracts valuable and incriminating information about the world's most powerful corporations. The goal is to acquire the information protected by physical and virtual state of the art defences while learning new abilities and balancing them against the limited memory of the avatar.
It's possible Square Enix made the decision to break this mode off into a standalone product to get the microtransactios-rich mode on the radar of the non-paying customers. Another reason could be the fact that the mode can serve as a demo for the players not yet ready to take the leap and buy Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
