Cyberpunk 2077 could arrive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlett says senior level designer Miles Tost. However, the main focus of the team right now is to wrap up and optimise the game for current-generation consoles and PC.
Cyberpunk is set to release on 16 April 2020 - a couple of months before the next-generation consoles from Sony and Microsoft arrive. Since the game's release is so close to the release of the new consoles, many are wondering if CD Projekt Red plan to enhance Cyberpunk 2077 and release the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Project Scarlett.
According to Cyberpunk 2077 senior level designer Miles Tost, that could happen and the studio will look at the new consoles once they are out. However, in an interview with GamerHubTV, Tost confirmed that the upcoming consoles are not their focus at the moment, as the team work hard to wrap up the development for current-gen consoles and PC.
"Of course we are looking at what is happening in the games industry because we are part of it, and we need to always look forward," Tost said. "But at the same time, we are a studio that really focuses on the work we're doing now. So our full attention is on current-gen consoles and PC."
Another reason for not looking into this more seriously at the moment is that the next-gen consoles will arrive sometime during holiday season 2020. That's six to seven months from the release of Cyberpunk 2077. "As far as what I have heard, the next-gen consoles...Xbox just announced holiday 2020. So it's not really a concern for us now because it comes way after where we want to release our game," Tost concluded.
Whether CD Projekt Red decide to release a new version of Cyberpunk 2077 for new consoles or not, players that buy the game on PS4 and Xbox One and then purchase PS5 or Xbox Scarlett will be able to play it on next-gen hardware thanks to backwards compatibility that is already officially confirmed for both consoles.
