The console version of space sim Elite Dangerous Odyssey will not be happening. After announcing the plans to release the console port on PlayStation and Xbox, Frontier Developments CEO David Braben confirmed in a letter today that the team have made a difficult decision to cancel the development of the console port.
Braben said the team need to be able to move forward with the game's story and in order to do this they need to focus on a single platform.
Here is the letter from Frontier CEO David Braben in full:
Elite Dangerous Odyssey launched last year on PC to mostly negative reviews on Steam. At the time of writing, only 33 per cent of reviews are positive, which certainly is not a good look for Frontier. This expansion for the excellent scape sim left a sour taste in players' mouths due to some questionable design decisions and poor performance on PC.
While the news regarding the cancellation of the console version is sad, at least the team will now hopefully focus on fixing the PC version of the game.
Frontier say they will share more details about the future of the Odyssey content as soon as they're ready.
