CD Projekt Red plan to release expansions for Cyberpunk 2077 just like they did with The Witcher 3. According to UI Coordinator Alvin Liu, they want to build open worlds that players will be able to re-visit once they finish the story.
Cyberpunk 2077 is CD Projekt Red's biggest game in terms of budget and scope of the game's world, features and gameplay mechanics. Of course, once the studio finally wrap up the development and ship the game, they won't just sit on their hands, instead, they will add even more content to the world of Cyberpunk 2077 trough post-launch expansions, just like they did with their previous game - The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
It looks like that CD Projekt Red plan to have few big scope expansions in Cyberpunk 2077 that could potentially introduce a new world to the game, just like Blood and Wine DLC did for The Witcher 3.
This was hinted by CD Projekt Red's UI coordinator Alvin Liu, who talked to Prima Games about what the future holds for their upcoming sci-fi RPG. According to Liu, the studio will talk about expansions later as they want to complete the game first but they will have players in mind when creating new content.
"We want to make sure everything's complete, but we also want to build open worlds. I know when I was playing The Witcher 3 and I finished everything, I still want to know what everyone was up to. I think we're going to have opportunities like that as well for Cyberpunk 2077," Liu explained.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt added two big expansions - Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. Both of these are considered as some of the best DLC's stories in RPG genre. The former featured the iconic character named Gaunter O Dimm, who is still a mystery to The Witcher 3 players.
Both DLCs added a ton of new content, and Blood and Wine could be easily sold as a separate game with its huge open world and a ton of side quests, new features and more. Hopefully, we get more of the same in Cyberpunk 2077.
