Call of Duty titles starting from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) have always been plagued by hackers. The abundance of hacks came into the open with the release of Call of Duty: Warzone in 2020. While Activision released RICOCHET anti-cheat to counter hackers, the problem still persisted.
Although Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has mostly remained free from the claws of hackers, it might soon change following the release of Ranked Play in Season 1. To add more fuel to the fire, Treyarch has announced that players cannot turn off cross-play for Ranked Play, opening the floodgates for hackers in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Treyarch announces Mandatory Crossplay for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Ranked Play
Hackers and Call of Duty titles have become synchronous, especially when it comes to Ranked Play. In Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, most high ranked players and casual players were completely burnt out by the end of the game's lifecycle due to constant hacker encounters in Ranked Play.
While in a recent RICOCHET update, Treyarch announced that they are introducing a new level threshold for entering Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Black Ops 6's Ranked Play, where players must play a certain amount of matches in the region they connected through the VPN.
So, with the new system in place, if a VPN abuser connects to Argentina, they must first play a certain amount of matches in Argentina before entering Ranked Play. Again, if they connect back to another region, they must again complete a certain amount of matches before entering Ranked Play.
Although Treyarch has put precautions in place to stop VPN abusers and smurf accounts, the crossplay change in Ranked Play will surely backfire for them in the long run. Most players might get burnt out in a few months if hackers become rampant like previous titles.
