League of Legends is expanding its universe with a charming spin-off game reminiscent of Stardew Valley called Bandle Tale: A League of Legends Story. This new venture is set in the enigmatic realm of Bandle City, an unexplored territory within the League of Legends universe, inhabited by the diminutive Yordles. The announcement of Bandle Tale came during a recent Nintendo Direct presentation.
The inspiration drawn from Stardew Valley is immediately apparent in Bandle Tale's gameplay. While it doesn't involve the cultivation of crops, it exudes a cozy life simulation atmosphere.
Players can gather resources, personalize their homes, and engage with the city's residents, many of whom are iconic League of Legends characters. The trailer for the game has already sparked comparisons to ConcernedApe's beloved farming life sim, Stardew Valley, which has set the modern standard for this genre.
Bandle Tale, although not hailing directly from the creators of Stardew, boasts significant indie credentials. As part of Riot Forge, the indie branch of Riot Games, Bandle Tale is being developed by Lazy Bear Games.
This studio is best recognized for its dark and medieval life simulation game, Graveyard Keeper, which made its debut in 2018 and garnered impressive reviews on Steam.
Despite its somewhat macabre theme, Graveyard Keeper has cultivated a dedicated fanbase over the years. Riot's decision to collaborate with Lazy Bear Games for a new project, albeit one with a lighter tone, is intriguing.
During its unveiling, Bandle Tale was presented alongside Song of Nunu, another game from Riot Forge. Song of Nunu is being developed by Tequila Works, renowned for their work on the puzzle adventure game Rime. This game is scheduled for release on November 1st, while Bandle Tale is expected to land on Nintendo Switch and PC in 2024.
