Nintendo announced that the next update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which launches July 3, 2020, is going full summertime mode, with swimming and diving.

"Cool off this summer by diving into the Animal Crossing: New Horizons free Summer Update – Wave 1, arriving July 3! Put on your wet suit to dive and swim in the ocean, and even meet a couple of new characters!", they wrote.

We're talking about a free update, of course, and it will let Animal Crossing: New Horizons players donate new sea creatures to Blathers' museum.

Donating starfish, scallops, spotted garden eels, and other creatures earns players mermaid-style recipes from Pascal, as you'll see for yourself in the trailer.

Also coming with Animal Crossing: New Horizons' July update are additional crafting options and the new look for Gulliver, whose style will sail into more pirate waters. Granted, he's no Jack Sparrow, but sure, we'll bite.

Last but not least, Nintendo mentioned that they'll soon be releasing some info on the early August update, but they didn't say when exactly. We'll be keeping our ears low just in case.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been one of absolute hits for Nintendo and its sales are still quite impressive. In fact, had there not been for Naughty Dog's recent launch of The Last of Us Part 2, Nintendo's social sim would've still been the biggest launch of 2020.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons may have lost to The Last of Us Part 2 by a significant margin but there's no doubt as to Nintendo's success. Heck, we thought the entire world will eventually start making shows in it, that's how incessantly popular it is.
