Agatha Christie’s iconic Death on the Nile is set to return - but not as you remember it. Microids Studio Lyon have officially announced that their modern reimagining of the legendary murder mystery will launch on September 25, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
Much like their well-received Murder on the Orient Express game, the studio is once again aiming to blend classic Christie storytelling with a fresh narrative twist, improved gameplay mechanics, and a little bit of that cinematic flair.
Two Detectives, Two Perspectives
This isn’t a straightforward adaptation. For the first time, players will take control of two playable characters: the ever-sharp Hercule Poirot and a brand-new detective created specifically for the game - Jane Royce.
Royce is described as intuitive, bold, and not afraid to go toe-to-toe with Poirot himself. The game will alternate between both characters, each offering a different lens on the unfolding events. The devs say that Poirot’s trademark logic pairs with Royce’s emotional intelligence to create a layered, dynamic investigation system.
Expect to cross-reference clues, interrogate suspects, and navigate through branching conversations as you piece together the mystery.
A Modern Retelling with New Twists
While the game draws inspiration from Christie’s original story, it’s not a scene-by-scene remake. Death on the Nile features new storylines, expanded character roles, and unexpected plot developments that promise to surprise even longtime fans of the book.
The case spans beyond the confines of the Karnak steamer, with locations that take players from London to Mallorca, New York, and eventually Egypt, where both investigations converge at Abu Simbel. According to the devs, players can expect "twists even die-hard Christie fans won’t see coming."
Enhanced Mindmaps, New Gameplay Systems
Microids is also building on the gameplay systems introduced in Murder on the Orient Express. Death on the Nile will feature an improved mindmap system, allowing players to visually track theories, timelines, and character connections.
Combined with an expanded investigation structure, the game aims to create a deep level of immersion as you investigate potential suspects.
