Arc System Works are going back to the nostalgia-fueled Kunio Kun series in another attempt at the fighter arena with Downtown Rantou Koushinkyoku Mach. The series is known as River City in English and stretches across various genres.
Downtown Rantou Koushinkyoku Mach will release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, probably at some point in 2019 but the exact release date was not given. As you may have already noticed, there is no Xbox One version announced.
According to an overview from Arc System Works, by Gematsu, Downtown Rantou Koushinkyoku Mach will be fairly similar to River City Melee: Battle Royal Special as the game will build upon its predecessor. There will be a few elements added that are supposed to make the battles a bit more heated.
One example is Bamboo Shoot pick-up that will enlarge any player that eats it, presumably boosting their health or attack power or maybe both. You can see an example of that in the header image where Kunio / Alex is much bigger than his peers in the arena.
A new mode will be added, named Change Match, which will allow players to immediatelly swap characters as soon as one is defeated. Team Edit will allow players to pick a roster of their favourite characters and make their own dream team.
Unfortunately, for the fans of River City Ransom, this is not one of those RPG games and they will have to stick with River City Ransom Underground or the NES classics for the moment. Those who played River City Melee: Battle Royal Special seem to be disappointed as well that this is not simply a DLC as Downtown Rantou Koushinkyoku Mach so far looks almost identical, just with a few extra features.
