During their earnings call, EA have confirmed that their orientation is to release one new Battlefield game every two years. CEO Andrew Wilson said this "probably makes sense".
EA's next big shooter, Battlefield 2042, is one of the most anticipated games of the year, not just in the shooter genre.
It's been almost three years since Battlefield V, the last installment in the popular franchise and more than six years since the last modern-day Battlefield, which was Hardline.
So yeah, it's certainly not surprising to see all the hype surrounding the game.
Moving forward, players might not have to wait that long for new Battlefield games. It seems that after Battlefield 2042, EA plan to release another Battlefield game in 2023, and another one two years after that.
The publisher confirmed that the two-year release cycle for their shooter franchise "makes sense".
When asked if the company's plan is to stick to new releases every two years, EA CEO Andrew Wilson responded affirmatively.
"I think that is our orientation but more importantly I think you should think about Battlefield as a service," Wilson responded.
"So that while an every other year launch probably makes sense if we think about it today, we’re really focused on 365-day engagement in the franchise at a platform level across any device that consumers may want to play on."
You may remember that EA used to release a new Battlefield game every two years but that changed after Battlefield V, which was not received well by the fans.
EA then decided to take more time to ensure that the next Battlefield game meets expectations and judging by the early impressions, it looks like they've made the right decision.
Thanks, VGC.
