This year has been full of amazing indie and AAA games, but only two PC games have managed to carve out a place for themselves in Steam Charts' Top Records list.
Steam Charts is a valued tool for tracking PC gamers' habits and gauge interest in new and games that have been around for some time but are only now finding their audience. This brings us to the page's Top Records list: a top ten matter showcasing the most played games, according to Steam Charts statistics.
Last year has seen many titles show up on the Top Records list but 2021 has been lagging behind in this department. Not to say this year hasn't had some amazing titles grace our desktops but precious few were worthy enough to appear on the list. Valheim deservedly took its place on the record back in February 2021 but no other title has managed to repeat the survival game's success. Until now.
Amazon Games' New World MMORPG was released on September 28, 2021, and it's already making history. In spite of modest server spaces reserved for a huge wave of players, New Wolrd managed to rise through the ranks and claim its spot on the list.
As things stand now, Steam Charts is displaying New World's all-time peak player count at 449,544 which is impressive on its own, but Steam's official player counter, as well as Steam DB, tell a slightly different story. According to Steam DB and Steam's own Game and Player Statistics page, New World reached its peak player count of 734,496 players just 17 hours ago (at the time of writing).
New World is available now, exclusively on PC.
