Bungie's Destiny 2 Rewards initiative offers a really powerful loot box, at no charge, but it may be wise to not redeem it immediately because the reward inside will scale with your Power level.
Engrams are Bungie's fancy way of saying "loot boxes". Some of them just hold cosmetic items, some have gear and some have more powerful gear. The last ones are called Powerful Engrams, among other names, and they are earned through in-game tasks or through the Bungie Rewards program. The latter method is the easy one and it just requires you to sign up for it.
This is the entire process:
- Go to Bungie Rewards page
- Choose your platform
- Log in with the platform's credentials
- Provide the mail to which the rewards will be sent
- Verify the mail through the link sent by Bungie
Once you've completed these steps, you can go , log in if you are not already logged in and click the profile picture on the upper left corner. Side menu will pop up and offer various options. Choose Rewards, located between PC Move and Redeem Codes at the time of writing, and you will be presented with your rewards page.
On top of it will be the Powerful Engram that you earned by opting in to Bungie Rewards program. Other than that, there are merchandise discounts you can achieve but they are not the topic of this guide.
If you are a new player, we suggest holding off the moment when you redeem the Powerful Engram. Power in Destiny 2 is basically the gear score metric found in any multiplayer games with progression. With the release of Shadowkeep, the soft cap for Power was moved up to 900 and hard cap at 950.
Soft cap refers to the Power level you can get through regular gameplay. In order to breach it and get to 950, you will need to acquire gear from powerful rewards and one of such ways is through Powerful Engrams. Therefore, the free Powerful Engram is a bit of a shortcut on your road from 900 to 950 and will undoubtedly prove to be more useful then as opposed to using it as a 750 Power novice.
