Ah, shit, here we go again. New wipe cycle has just started and we are here to show you how to finish Gunsmith parts 1-5 so you can get that XP quick and easy.

If you are a beginner or a casual player who is not that into weapons, you probably look confused looking at Mechanic's Gunsmith quests where he asks you to modify a gun to suit his specific needs.

Not only do you have to know which parts are compatible with each other, but also how to get the necessary ergonomics & recoils needed.

Not to worry, we are here to guide you through the list of items needed, and to help you assemble them.

You want to upgrade the Hideout workbench to a level 1 to unlock weapon presets.

We will use different parts than the Tarkov wiki ones as a lot of people build guns using them which pumps the parts price up. So you will be saving money by following our guide.

There are four common things you need to know regarding all the Gunsmith quests:

  • Make sure the barrel is empty and does not contain a bullet when turning in the gun for a quest.
  • Gun's durability must be 60 or more to be eligible for turning in. Gun can be repaired, however, with every repair, you reduce the durability, so if your durability is already 60 or less, you will have to get a new gun. The good thing is you only need to get the base of the gun and move all parts to the new base.
  • Next to every part we are going to put from which trader they can be bought. However, most of the parts can be bought on flea market as well, and more often than not, you will have to, as leveling traders take time.
  • Doing gunsmith parts can be tough on your wallet, but remember that for every quest you will get a decent reward, so your net balance will often be zero.

  Gunsmith part 1 - MP-133

Gunsmith part 1 is available as soon as you hit level 2, and you will receive 5400 XP as a reward for achieving it, which is a lot for low levels. This used to be the only part that can be accomplished without LL2 traders and flea market but after patch 12.12. update it is not the case anymore.

There are 2 ways to get the MP-133:

  • Jaeger LL1 - 23k rubles
  • Mechanic LL1 barter for 2 elite pliers and a screwdriver (Tactical MP)

If you don't have barter items, would suggest looting Scav town in Woods or village on Shoreline.

After you get the gun,  you will also need:

- MP-133 custom plastic forestock with rails  (already on Tactical MP from Mechanic) - Mechanic LL1

- MP-133/153 plastic pistol grip - Jaeger LL1

- Remington Tactical Choke 12ga -  Skier LL2 (can also be found in raid)

- NcSTAR Tactical blue laser LAM-Module - Skier LL1

- KAC vertical grip - Peacekeeper LL1

- MP-133x6 Shotgun Magazine - Jaeger LL1

Take out the current wooden stock and replace it with a pistol grip, add forestock if you did not get the Tactical MP, add KAC vertical grip, replace the choke and add a laser to it. That is it.

Make sure you followed the general rules about durability and empty chamber, and turn in the gun.

Workbench level 1 unlocks weapon presets which will be very useful Modding weapons with presets is much easier

  Gunsmith part 2 - AKS-74U

Part 2 opens up at level 11, and this one is not going to be achievable with only level 1 traders, as you will need to put a 60 round magazine in this bad boy. The magazine can be bought on a flea market, found in Raid, or crafted in Hideout with Lavatory level 2.

The requirements for Gunsmith 2 did not change with patch 12.12.

If you go for crafting, you will need 4 6L23 magazines and a Kek tape. If you plan to loot it in a raid, I would suggest Reserve, as it has the most weapon loot. The same goes for the other parts which are as follows

- AKS-74U 5.45x39 assault rifle - Prapor LL1

- AKS-74U Zenit B-11 handguard - Mechanic LL1

- TangoDown Stubby BGV-MK46K tactical grip Skier/Peacekeeper LL3

- AK TAPCO SAW-Style pistol grip - Peacekeeper LL2

- AK-74 5.45x39 6L31 60-round magazine - Prapor LL2

Replace the existing Pistol grip with Saw pistol grip.  Drag TangoDown to your Zenit-B11 handguard, and replace the existing handguard.  Lastly, replace the 30-round magazine with a 60-round. magazine.

  Gunsmith part 3 -  MP5

Part 3 unlocks as level 12, so just a level after unlocking part 2.  This part changed massively with patch 12.12., so here are the new required parts:

- HK MP5 9x19 submachine gun - Peacekeeper LL1 or Mechanic LL2

- MP5SD upper receiver - Peacekeeper LL2

- MP5SD polymer handguard - Peacekeeper LL2

- MP5SD 9x19 sound suppressor - Peacekeeper LL2

- MP5 9x19 X Products X-5 50-round drum magazine - Mechanic LL2 or LL3

- MP5SD B&T tri-rail ring mount - Peacekeeper LL2

- Surefire X400 Ultra tactical flashlight - Peacekeeper LL2

Start by replacing the old upper of the gun with the new upper receiver, move the stock and drum mag from the previous receiver to a new one, add the handguard and the suppressor, Drag the flashlight into the tri-rail ring mount, and put it on the gun. Replace the existing magazine with a 50-round one and you are done.

The amount of quest money rewards depends on the Hideout Intelligence level.

  Gunsmith part 4 - M4A1

This is the part where you will probably spend most money as it requires most parts. The quest is unlocked by reaching level 15. It also got changed with the latest patch, so here is the new build:

- Colt M4A1 5.56x45 assault rifle - Peacekeeper or Mechanic, both LL2

- KAC vertical grip - Peacekeeper LL1

- MK12 Low Profile Gas Block - Mechanic LL1, Peacekeeper LL2

- AR-15 Magpul MOE SL Carbine Length M-LOK handguard - Skier LL1

- Hogue Overmolded Rubber Grip - Peacekeeper LL3

- Magpul MOE Carbine stock - Peacekeeper / Skier LL3

- Magpul MOE Carbine stock series Rubber Butt-Pad - Peacekeeper / Skier LL3

- AR-15 Surefire SF3P 5.56x45 Flash hider - Mechanic LL2

- Surefire SOCOM556-MINI MONSTER 5.56x45 sound suppressor - Mechanic LL3

- Primary Arms Compact prism scope 2.5x - Skier LL2

- 5.56x45 Surefire MAG5-60 STANAG 60-round magazine - Peacekeeper LL3

Swap the pistol grips,  replace the default stock with Moe stock, and add a butt-pad. Add KAC, replace the gas block, add scope to the mount and add it to the gun. Replace handguard and add a silencer. Finally, replace the magazine and turn it in.

M4A1 is one of the favourite guns among the player base, so maybe try it out in Offline mode before turning in.

Gunsmith part 5 - DVL-10

The last part in this list unlocks at level 17. It is a breeze compared to part 4, and remained unchanged after the last update. So this is what you need:

- LOBAEV Arms DVL-10 Saboteur .308 bolt-action sniper rifle - Skier LL3

- NcSTAR Tactical blue laser LAM-Module Skier LL1

- IEA Mil-Optics 34mm one piece magmount  - Jaeger LL3

- Nightforce ATACR 7-35x56 riflescope - Jaeger LL4

Just drag all parts in and remove the magazine, as you won't be able to turn the gun in with magazine inside.

That is it for the first 5 parts of the Gunsmith quests.

Part 6 opens up at level 16 and you can check out the guide for parts 6-10 here .
