Below, we've made a list of ten tips, tricks and facts that you need to know before start playing Blasphemous 2. We did our best to include the most important stuff that may not be obvious at first.
While some of these tips and tricks may be familiar to those who played the original Blasphemous, there are a couple of new things that even the veterans of this challenging souls-like probably didn't expect. So, without further ado, let's check out ten tips and tricks for Blasphemous 2.
Blasphemous 2- What you need to know before start playing
- Don't waste your time trying to reach chests or open gates if you don't see an obvious solution
You'll notice straight away that Blasphemous 2 is packed with various gates and treasure chests. Don't waste your time trying to open or reach them if you don't see an obvious solution. As you progress through the game, you'll find new weapons and unlock skills that will allow you to unlock gates and reach these chests later on.
- You can break many walls and obstacles
If you have played Souls-likes before you are probably quite familiar with this secret walls mechanic. Blasphemous 2 features it too so hit the walls that look a bit suspicious as they might hide a secret path. Here's an obvious example of walls that can be broken but keep in mind that not all breakable walls are this obvious - some may look like a dead end but hide a valuable secret.
- There's no fall damage
Blasphemous 2 does not feature fall damage so you can pretty much jump from any height and still keep your health at full. However, jumping off the map at certain locations will take half of your health and return you to the last safe location.
- Spikes are no longer instakill
You've read that right. Falling into spike traps doesn't mean death in Blasphemous 2. Instead, spike traps will take a large chunk of your health. You can survive falling into spike traps a couple of times if you have full health.
- Get rid of your guilt
This one is pretty important. Once you die, and you will die a lot in this game, your Fervor, which is the blue magic meter will start to become consumed by thorns, limiting your spell-casting ability. Either retrieve your ghost from the place you were killed or go see a confessor to pay off your guilt for a small fee.
- Use the spell to quickly travel back to the city
If you need to return to the main city that acts as a hub area, use the spell which is in your inventory. This is a convenient and quick way to reach the city, do whatever you need to do, be it upgrading, shopping or washing away your sins.
- Make sure to swap your weapons regularly
Don't just stick to one as each weapon has its own strengths and weaknesses. You'll encounter various enemies on your journey and you will be able to take some of them down easier if you choose the right tools. For example, you'll notice that mace can stagger or even throw back some enemies while the greatsword has a powerful counterattack. Use these to your advantage.
- Upgrade The Penitent One
You can upgrade your health to make survivability a bit easier, especially in the later stages of the game, where every enemy will be killing you in two blows, some even in one if you leave your HP metre at stock. Also, make sure to unlock new weapon combos for each weapon since these are crucial to take down enemies faster and handle larger groups of enemies easier.
- Merchants don't sell trash
Believe it or not, merchants in Blasphemous 2 actually sell some pretty amazing items that you'll want to own as soon as possible. As you slay enemies and open chests, you'll collect Tears of Atonement which is the game's main currency. Spend these at merchants for powerful upgrades and key items needed for quests.
- Side quests will reward you with very powerful items
In Blasphemous 2, you'll find many NPCs who will have a side quest or two for you. If you help them, you'll receive rewards and some of these rewards can be pretty amazing. For example, The Cursed Letters quest is one of the side quests that will give you the most powerful spell in the game. We also recommend that you find Cherub's and give tools to the artisan as he'll gave some great rewards for you later in the game.
