2XKO is now available as a free-to-play 2v2 fighter on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Learn essential beginner tips, champion synergies, Fuses, and teamplay mechanics to get started fast.

Riot Games’ much anticipated 2v2 fighter 2XKO has finally released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and it’s free-to-play. With champions from League of Legends and an emphasis on teamwork, assists, and tags.

Although it’s fun to jump right into 2XKO, it can feel pretty daunting at first. With champions to choose from, Assists, Fuses, and combo routes to understand on top of actual fighting game mechanics, there’s a lot to take in.

This is especially true if you aren’t already familiar with tag fighters. Thankfully, these beginner tips will help you find your footing quickly and have you winning matches after your first hour of play.

Team up early and use Assist mechanics

As the name suggests, 2XKO is all about 2v2 gameplay. You can play solo or team up with friends, but duo partners make learning the game easier and unlock additional options for coordination.

When your backup champion is out of screen, you can activate their Assist by pressing (Xbox controller):

  • Back + A

Keyboard:

  • Assist button (default: Shift)
  • Directional Assist (default: Back + Shift, using A or S depending on your movement setup)

These Assists can fulfill numerous roles:

  • Braum can dive in to provide a shield and alleviate crowd control
  • Blitzcrank can spike enemies towards your teammates to set up combos
  • Vi can apply aerial area damage to opponents caught mid-jump

Friends can simply tap A to instantly tag in after you use an Assist.

Pick champions that work well together

Each champion has their own unique playstyle. During your first few hours with 2XKO, it’s completely okay to just jump in and try different champions. See what feels natural to you or looks cool, you can always change them later.

Some good synergies to look out for as a beginner:

  • Caitlyn and Vi – long-range poke with enough melee damage to keep pressure
  • Darius and Ekko – bulky damage dealers with plenty of mobility and tools to reset
  • Ahri and Braum – magic damage from above with protection from below

By playing two champions that compliment eachothers’ range, mobility, and defense you’ll have an easier time.

Use Pulse Combo to learn the basics

Combos are the most important part of 2XKO, but learning them manually can take time.

That’s where Pulse Combo helps.

By enabling Pulse Combo in champion select (RT button), you can:

  • Perform automatic combos by repeatedly pressing one attack button
  • Experiment with different combo routes using X, Y, or B
  • Learn how your champion naturally strings attacks together

This system is ideal for beginners who want to stay competitive while learning move sets.

Complete tutorials to improve faster

The Learning Hub offers structured ways to improve without pressure:

Experiment with Fuses

Fuses act as team modifiers that change how your two champions function together. You choose a Fuse after locking in your team, making them easy to experiment with.

Available starting Fuses include:

  • Juggernaut – play a single empowered champion with higher survivability
  • Sidekick – boost your main fighter while turning the second champion into a support role
  • Double Down – link both champions’ Super attacks for high damage potential

More advanced Fuses, such as 2X Assist and Freestyle, can be unlocked through tutorial completion.
